Want to cruise the Yellow Brick Road in a Ferrari formerly owned by Sir Elton John? You've come to the right place!
Complete with a signed letter of confirmation from Sir Elton himself, this 1987 Ferrari Testarossa is for sale via the carsales network. The car has reportedly covered less than 20,000km and, according to the seller, is in pristine condition.
The Fezza was given to the rocker for his 40th birthday in March 1987 and has been lovingly cared for ever since.
First launched in 1984, the Testarossa (Italian for redhead, referring to the red cylinder-heads on the engine) ran through until 1991. Power came from a mid-mounted 4.9-litre ‘flat 12’ engine that had the enviable power figure of 291kW at 6300rpm and a hefty 490Nm at 4500rpm. Top speed was claimed to be 286km/h and the beast had a 0-100km/h time of 5.2 seconds.
The engine was wide to start with but with addition of a radiator at each side, it required a body of nearly two metres in width to house it. Hence Pinninfarina designed the wide, low-slung design that still evokes a wonderful sense of speed, muscle and style that is still candy for the automotive eye today.
Another characteristic of the Testarossa are the five louvers on the doors that feed the air intakes for the radiators. This feature has been copied by subsequent mid-mount sportscar designers to this day.
This particular example is said to have been untouched, except for regular maintenance, since Elton owned it, and it still has the original tool kit as well as the stereo that Elton listened to...
A true supercar, The Testarossa is the car that some pundits reckon you have to have in any Ferrari collection.
If you want to get down to the track and emulate the Rocket Man, or you just want to rock around the block, the asking price (including signed memorabilia) is $175,000.
No diehard Elton John or Ferrari fan should let the sun go down on this baby!
