Entry-level EVs to lead Skoda’s electric assault

Small and medium electric Skoda SUVs to get more affordable thanks to smaller 60kWh battery pack

The News

Skoda Australia has revealed details of not one, but two entry-level battery-electric SUVs that mark its commitment to widening the value net for a new generation of buyers.

The Key Details

  • Skoda Elroq 60 and Enyaq 60 to kick off respective model lines
  • Mid-sized Elroq 60 Select breaks the $50,000 drive-away barrier
  • Larger Enyaq 60 Select just $54,990 d/a
  • No mechanical or chassis changes
  • Enyaq 60 now on sale, Elroq 60 arrives in November

The Finer Details

Skoda has thrown down the gauntlet to the ever-increasing product deluge impacting the local market by introducing two key entry-level variants in its BEV SUV family, despite the brand’s recent critique of ‘cheaper’ Chinese alternatives.

The medium Elroq 60 Select small SUV will arrive in November, with a sub-$50,000 drive-away price figure as its number one asset.

The larger Enyaq 60 Select SUV, meanwhile, lobs in at $54,990 d/a when it fronts up before Christmas.

Undercutting the next variant in the line-up by $10,000 and $9,000 respectively, the Select 60 variants – unsurprisingly –use a smaller 60kWh battery and electric motor combination compared to their respective 85 Select siblings, both offering up 150kW/310Nm instead of the heftier 210kW/545kW.

Range, meantime, drops to 395km (WLTP claimed), in contrast to 529km in the Elroq, and to 410km (from 547km) in the Enyaq.

Neither car misses out on much in the spec department, with LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch alloys, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a comprehensive safety suite, a seven-year warranty (eight on the high-voltage battery) and a guaranteed buy-back price via Skoda’s own finance arm.

The pair headline a re-jigged line-up, with the facelifted Enyaq replacing the version launched late last year, while the Elroq landed in showrooms this month.

The Road Ahead

Skoda has been vocal about leaning into its 18-year tenure in the Australian market, and its new managing director Lucie Kuhne has been direct in her aspirations for the Skoda nameplate.

The Enyaq and Elroq will spearhead the brand’s BEV offensive, which will sit alongside new PHEV and ICE models that are currently in train.
