Eterniti Hemera aims for Chinese bonanza

New renderings reveal British ‘Super SUV' is gradually taking shape; production-ready version to debut at April's Beijing motor show

Eterniti’s ultra-luxo Hemera all-terrainer – touted as ‘SUV meets BMW M5’ – first popped up at September’s Frankfurt motor show, and now the boutique UK carmaker has released these additional renderings of the vehicle, which goes on sale in its home market in spring.

As previously reported, the Hemera will command an asking price in excess of £150k ($235k) in England, and you can virtually double that figure to get the theoretical Oz price (if any examples were to ever make it here).

This spend will get prospective owners a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-derived chariot with over 600bhp (447kW) on tap from its twin-turbo 4.8-litre V8, and a mega-opulent cabin that can be trimmed to the buyer’s individual taste.

The accompanying renderings provide an idea of how the Hemera will look, but according to UK’s Autocar magazine there are still minor tweaks to be made to the headlights, front splitter and other areas.

The development project is being led by Alastair Macqueen – the brains behind the Jaguar XJ220 – and ex-F1 racer Johnny Herbert has also been drafted in to serve as a test and development driver and brand ambassador of sorts.

Although the Cayenne Turbo S has provided the fundamental hardware for the vehicle, the Eterniti team has thoroughly revamped the chassis, making it lower and wider in the process. It also scores lightweight 23-inch rims.

An extra 120mm of rear legroom has also been liberated by moving the rear seats up and back, albeit at the expense of some luggage capacity. However, a company spokesman was quoted as saying most customers won’t mind as load-lugging isn’t in its basic job description.

The production-ready Hemera will debut at April’s Beijing motor show, and its creators aim to have it on sale before Maserati’s Kubang and Bentley’s proposed SUV hit the market.

Eterniti aims to sell 50 Hemeras in its first year of production, of which 90 per cent are destined for China, with the remainder to be flogged in Russia, Europe and the Middle East.
