Chinese challenger brand turned top-10 regular MG Motor has confirmed to carsales it’s weathering the crippling supply storm better than most at the moment, with around 7000 new vehicles set to arrive on Aussie soil next month.
While most brands have been faced with lengthy delivery times spanning anywhere from two to 12 months and beyond, MG has been happily ticking along with regular deliveries, adamant that it has enough stock on hand to cater for the vast majority of orders.
But now MG has admitted its customers are facing delivery wait times for the first time and although it won’t say exactly which models are in short supply or how long consumers will have to wait, it’s likely to be only around a month or two given the impending stock injection.

Once China’s lockdowns are lifted, MG says it will be increasing production output at its Shanghai plant to further improve supply.
“MG Motor has fought really hard to secure a large proportion of automotive allocation for our region in an ongoing effort to keep Australians moving,” a local MG spokesperson said.
“We are unable to provide exact [current stock] figures due to commercial confidence, however, given our growth in this market and manufacturing capabilities, we are well prepared to navigate our way to meet customer demand.

“Due to global supply chain issues, some of our vehicle arrival dates may be delayed later than originally estimated at the time of order.
“MG Motor Australia is currently working hard with our parent company to reduce this delay to an absolute minimum.”
MG’s tighter supply pipeline evidently hasn’t affected things too badly – the brand was once again one of the top 10 best-selling brands in the country last month, just like it has been all year.

MG has also recorded positive sales growth in 2022 over the corresponding months in 2021, which was itself a record year for the brand.
What makes MG’s success more impressive during the current supply chain crisis is that it’s managed to maintain all of its standard equipment across its local portfolio – unlike a range of car-makers that have been forced to remove features due to the global semi-conductor shortage affecting many industries.
That said, MG prices have been creeping up in recent months, the most prominent of which came in April when the MY22 MG line-up arrived in local showrooms.
