A faster, more track focused version of the Ford GT supercar will be unleashed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 4, it has been revealed.
Ford released single shadowy tease of the faster Ford GT overnight. It's thought the car that will be unveiled will be a road car that draws heavily from the Ford GTE race that most recently competed at last week's Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race.
If so, expect the track-bred Ford GT to feature significantly revised aerodynamics that maximise downforce.
With more downforce it's unlikely the GT will hit the standard car's 348km/h top speed unless engineers have managed to fit a drag reduction system, but the Ford supercar is tipped to produce more power.
Witness the roof scoop that feeds high pressure air to the cold air intake system that, along with engine revisions, is set to boost power of the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 from the standard car's 483kW/746Nm to well over 500kW/800Nm.
Created to rival cars like the McLaren Senna, it's rumoured a faster more powerful Ford GT could also be necessary for the US car-maker to provide a more competitive base for entering the new World Endurance Racing Hypercar class that begins from the 2020/2021 season onwards.
Aston Martin has already announced it will enter its V12-powered Valkyrie to compete a new hypercar being readied by Toyota.
