Exclusive, extra-value RX 350
Can a build plate turn an extra-value model into something more attractive to the cognoscenti? Lexus is about to find outLexus has just announced more froth and sizzle for the company's model range, with a limited edition based on the RX 350. By building the on-road costs into the price of the 250-unit run, Lexus claims the RX 350 SE ('Special Edition') offers a total of over $8500 worth of extra value at the going price of $79,990.
Within that extra value component, there's $6000 worth of features, including: 18-inch alloy wheels in a shadow chrome finish, a choice of three exterior colours, roof racks, nudge bar, tow bar, headlight covers, rear bumper protector, cargo mat and reverse-parking sensors. The three exterior colours are Arctic Blue, Burgundy and Onyx carbon.
Departing from the usual marketing practice of just dumping a whole pile of goodies into a production-line model, Lexus is fitting each of the 250 vehicles with a unique build plate, which the company expects will confer exclusivity on the RX 350 SE.
Chief Executive for Lexus Australia, John Roca, played down the 'exclusive' element of the new variant, merely saying: "RX 350 SE is a very attractive package for active couples or families".
"On the financial front, RX 350 SE will offer purchasers additional value in the order of $8500, a significant saving as we head towards the end of the financial year.
"The RX has long been one of Australia's most popular luxury SUVs - and we expect RX 350 SE with its added extras to be one of our best sellers over the coming months," he said.
