The Ford Mustang promotional party rages on, with Ford now announcing an interactive video of a V8 variant circulating the track at Silverstone at race speeds.
"We wanted everyone to be able to experience a Mustang V8 at high speed on a great track," said Mark Truby, vice president, Communications and Public Affairs, Ford of Europe.
"What makes this video unique is that the viewer is in complete control of the vantage point. They can view in any direction just as if they were in the cockpit of the Mustang, switch to drone view, check speed and RPM. It's totally immersive."
Ford has released the video on the occasion of the Mustang's formal launch in the UK. The interactive video is not supported by all browsers, so Ford has also prepared a conventional video that can be seen at YouTube.
The video is 80 seconds long and was stitched together from GoPro and drone footage. Any one of three views can be selected by the user: in-car, front bumper and external.
By dragging the display with the mouse the viewer can take in the scenery as it flashes past, from within the car, and can witness Paul Swift the driver hard at work in the left-hand seat (the car in question is left-hand drive).
The external footage comprises shots from a GoPro mounted on the front bumper, or video taken from a drone at ground level or overhead.
Viewers can switch between the external, front bumper and in-car footage at will, and can also opt to click on two icons – one an elevated representation of the track and the other a speedo graphic – to enhance the experience.
By clicking on the track icon, the interactive video shows what part of the track the car is negotiating in time with the live-action footage. The speedo icon brings up speedo and tacho displays updating the car's speed and engine revs at any given point.
