Extra AMGs secured to ease lists

Australia will get extra allocation of AMG fettled A and CLA-Class
Mercedes-Benz has moved to reduced waiting lists on its high-performance CLA 45 and A 45 AMG models.
The 265kW all-wheel-drive hot hatch and compact sedan have been a sell-out success Down Under. In fact, as early as February this year waiting lists had pushed deliveries into 2015. In April we reported that the order bank had ballooned to the last quarter of 2015 and since then some owners have been facing delivery dates that stretched well into in the 2016 calendar year.
Now, according to Mercedes-Benz Australia (MBAu), local A and CLA 45 buyers will benefit from extra allocation secured from Affalterbach.
"Australia is an important market for AMG and we have an excellent relationship with the factory. We've negotiated long and hard and it's borne fruit," MBAu spokesperson David McCarthy told motoring.com.au.
"We're still working through the details of the extra allocation and the exact effect it will have on waiting lists, but we're confident that it will significantly reduce them," he said.
McCarthy said the extra allocation of A and CLA 45 AMG models was "in the hundreds".
"Deliveries will come way back into 2015," he said.
"Many of the buyers we've already been in contact with will get a pleasant surprise," he stated.
McCarthy said the extra A/CLA AMGs would impact the performance sub-brand's final 2014 sales figure but hinted that much of the effect will be in the 2015 sales year.
"We're confident we will deliver over 2000 AMGs this year," he stated.
Year to date June 30, MBAu had delivered approximately 1300 AMGs Down Under. It doesn't follow however that MBAu is aiming at 2600 by year end.
Although the extra A and CLA 45 stock will have some impact in the second half of 2014, one of the brand's top-selling variants, the C 63 AMG sedan, will not be available due to the generational changeover to the W205 series C-Class donor vehicle.
The all-new C63 will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
