Extreme BAC Mono R hypercar to be unleashed on August 17

Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) has confirmed it will unleash an ultra-lightweight track-focused hypercar based on its BAC Mono R at the upcoming Monterey Car Week festival on August 17.

The new unnamed derivative is said to have been created to be “one of a kind” and will bring a “new dimension” to its line-up, BAC claims.

No other details have been released, but BAC’s presence at the Pebble Beach car fest held annually in Northern California is part of an ongoing strategy to establish itself as a global brand, say execs.

The new model is expected to be powered by a derivative of the Ford-sourced 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine found in the Mono R, which is heated up by Blue Oval tuner Mountune and can spin up to a heady 8000rpm.

Combined with a kerb weight of less than the Mono R’s 555kg, the new BAC hypercar should launch from 0-100km/h in less than 2.6 seconds a top out at around 300km/h.

As far as the drive goes, engineers claim the new BAC has been engineered to deliver a “contrasting behind-the-wheel experience to that of the Mono R”.

The key difference to the Mono R is the new car will be even lighter and is expected to do without even a token windscreen in a bid to slash weight.

Set to line up alongside the BAC Mono and the Mono R, the new unnamed model is expected to cost more than £200,000 ($A390,000).
