Facelift, upgrade and new variants for Toyota's HiLux
Toyota launches a revised range of its popular light commercial vehicle, the HiLuxA new automatic transmission option for the entry-level WorkMate now takes the Toyota HiLux range to 32 variants. The slushbox is just one of the changes Toyota has introduced with the upgraded model, which now boasts Euro IV compliance for the 2.7-litre four-cylinder powering the HiLux WorkMate and the 4.0-litre V6. Power for the former is 116kW and peak torque is 240Nm.
As well as the automatic transmission option for the HiLux WorkMate single and dual cab models, 4x2 models gain larger front brakes and improved front suspension. Adopting 15-inch steel wheels for all 4x2 variants (previously fitted only when the optional ABS was specified), has freed up space for the larger brake discs, which now measure 275mm in diameter -- a 20mm improvement on the previous model's front disc rotors.
Toyota has revised the front damper settings for a flatter ride in the 4x2 models and now specifies rear suspension bushes which further isolate the cabin from road-related vibration. Still at the rear, both 4x2 and 4x4 models benefit from new double-row roller-type axle bearings, which contribute to the vehicle's handling and durability.
4x4 SR5 models are now equipped with a new design of 15-inch alloy wheel and steering wheel controls for the audio and information systems.
The HiLux SR5 4x4 dual cab (pictured), is now fitted as standard with cruise control and Toyota has added a new colour which is shared with the Kluger SUV, 'Tidal Blue'.
Externally, the facelift models are distinguished by a new radiator grille, a new air intake below the front bumper, the bumper itself and revised headlights featuring clear-lens indicators.
Toyota designers have gone to work on the interior also, fitting a cover to the front passenger vanity mirror, reworking switchgear for wipers and lights, and developing a new (30mm higher) centre console for all manual-transmission vehicles.
Prices have not changed for the HiLux WorkMate, the HiLux 4x2 turbodiesels and the HiLux 4x4 SR V6, but other models have increased in price by one per cent. The automatic transmission option for the HiLux WorkMate costs $2000.
