Mercedes-Benz has sold roughly 300,000 units of the second generation M-Class SUV since its release in 2005, but the company is not about to let the grass grow under the wheels of the American-built offroader.
Accordingly, Stuttgart will introduce a facelift later this year, incorporating more efficient engines and improved features.
Visually, the new model will be distinguished by a re-styled radiator grille featuring three black louvres and chrome highlights. Still at the front, the M-Class will be kitted out with revised styling for the projector beam headlights. Exterior mirrors are also larger and at the rear, the M-Class will adopt a revised bumper and high-contrast tail light lenses.
The range-topping ML 63 AMG will gain new front and rear aprons with a chromed underguard, and a larger AMG radiator grille.
All M-Class models are fitted with restyled alloy wheels for the new model year.
For the cabin of the updated M-Class, buyers can specify either nappa leather trim or ARTICO leather-like man-made trim. ARTICO is the default for the door centre panel trim.
Seats and the steering wheel have been redesigned, the wheel now being a four-spoke multi-function unit bound in leather and featuring chrome elements.
A new Media Interface allows external music sources to interface with the vehicle's onboard electronic control system to display music track details in the colour display in the centre fascia, while playing the music through the vehicle's Harman Kardon LOGIC7 audio system.
Finally, changes to the engines available in the M-Class have reduced fuel consumption by up to 0.4L/100km, depending on the engine in question.
Mercedes-Benz has not revealed full specifications and pricing, but will do so closer to the local launch of the new range.
