Family friendly 2025 Volvo EX90 EV priced for Australia

Luxury three-row all-electric SUV priced above closely related five-seat Polestar 3 but below the BMW iX

Volvo has announced full pricing for the 2025 Volvo EX90 all-electric large SUV ahead of its arrival in Australian dealerships this April.

The newcomer is priced from $124,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Volvo EX90 Plus Twin Motor and $134,990 (plus ORCs) for the more powerful EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance.

At that money, the new Swedish seven-seat large SUV is priced above the closely related entry-level single-motor Polestar 3 ($118,000 plus ORCs) but below the premium German rivals, like the Audi Q8 e-tron ($153,984) and BMW iX ($136,900).

For families ready for the switch to all-electric power, the biggest thorn in the Volvo EX90’s side is the three-row Kia EV9, which is priced from $97,000 to $121,000 plus ORCs.

Powered by just one large 111kWh battery, the EX90 Plus Twin Motor features dual motors that produce 300kW and 700Nm of torque that can haul the big SUV from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The EX90 Ultra Twin Motor Performance ramps up the power to 380kW and the peak torque figure to a much more muscular 910Nm, slashing the 0-100km/h dash to just 4.9 seconds. Not bad, when you realise that the fastest Volvo seven-seater is actually $9420 cheaper than the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack ($144,420), which features the same powertrain.

Top speed is limited to 180km/h while Volvo says the EX90 can tow up to 2200kg.

Whichever you choose, Volvo says on a single charge the EX90 can travel up to 570km.

It’s thought that later on a single-motor version of the EX90 could be offered that will blend 210kW of power with a longer range.

Coming equipped with an 11kW on-board AC charger, using a DC fast charger the big battery can accept a charge of up to 250kW, with a 10-80 per cent top-up taking 30 minutes.

Helping to justify its price premium over the seven-seat Kia EV9, Volvo says its latest EX90 is the safest Volvo ever made, with active safety measures including cameras, radars and a LiDAR that feeds data to powerful NVIDIA DRIVE processors and Volvo’s own software.

Thanks to the new tech the EX90’s on-board computer can ‘see’ objects hundreds of metres ahead, buying time for the system to warn the driver or act and avoid the object if there’s no input from the human behind the wheel.

Within the cabin, Volvo says the materials used means it can rival its most luxurious rivals for fit, finish and quality.

As standard, Australian cars come with the high-end Nordico synthetic leather material that’s made from recycled bottles, cork and sustainable pine tree oil.

Both models also get a full-width panoramic roof that let’s just 5 per cent of UV rays through, a powerful 25-speaker premium 3D sound system and a large 14.5-inch infotainment system that runs Google-powered software.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is available, while the big EX90 also comes with the option to use your smartphone as a key.

Reducing its environmental impact, the Volvo EX90 is said to be made of 15 per cent recycled steel, 25 per cent recycled aluminium and up to 48 per cent recycled plastics and bio-based materials, which is all claimed to be the highest rate of any Volvo made to date.

Included in the price of each car is five years (up to 75,000km) of free servicing.

Volvo will release full specification of its all-new 2025 Volvo EX90 SUV closer to launch this April.
