Faraday Future to reveal Tesla Model S rival at CES

Secretive pure electric car-maker, Faraday Futures, has teased another picture of its Tesla Model S rival while announcing it will reveal its concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2016.

The as-yet unnamed Faraday concept is thought to be more of a high-riding SUV coupe that’s expected to have 15 per cent more battery capacity than the Tesla Model S, as well as a range exceeding 500km.

As well as being pure electric, the Faraday concept – that will hint heavily at a production car to go on sale in 2017 – will also feature far more autonomous technology than its Tesla rival.

Announcing that the firm is ready to reveal a concept, Faradayfutures.com said:

“We will launch with fully electric vehicles that will offer smart and seamless connectivity to the outside world”.

According to reports, Faraday plans to launch a single model before following it up with seven different vehicles in rapid succession.

Recently, it was revealed the EV manufacturer is being backed by LeTV, a Chinese company providing online video downloads to paying clients, similar to Netflix.

This financial backing has enabled Faraday Futures to poach senior engineers and executives from Tesla, as well as Richard Kim, BMW’s former lead designer for the two concepts that became the i3 and i8.

Despite the evidence of Chinese backing, rumours still persist that Faraday Futures’ still unnamed CEO is a senior figure within Apple. If true, Faraday Futures could be a front for Apple’s well-publicised move into becoming a car-maker.
