We here at motoring.com.au pride ourselves on comprehending some pretty arcane subjects.
Fuel cells – check. V8 Supercars homologation regs – check. Just-in-time logistics – check, check and triple check.
But haute couture?
A press release has landed on our collective desks and, as far as we can appreciate, Rolls-Royce has built a car that's "inspired by fashion."
In fact, that's the name of the car, 'Wraith – Inspired by Fashion'!
At least, we hope that's the case. The press release was full of unfamiliar concepts and odd uses of seemingly incompatible words in mind-boggling phrases and sentences.
So here's a précis, based admittedly on our limited understanding: Rolls-Royce has conducted a photo shoot with a (fashion) model on the Goodwood production line as a preview of a Wraith coupe bearing the name 'Wraith – Inspired by Fashion'.
Featuring luxury materials and high-end knick-knacks in the Bespoke Rolls-Royce style, the Wraith will be unveiled at a fashion gala named 'Women of Influence in the Business of Style', held at the PRATT Institute in New York. According to the Rolls-Royce press release, the PRATT Institute is a "world-renowned art and design school".
The car's designer is one Michelle Lusby and the event will be broadcast on a new live-streaming app ('Periscope') from Twitter. Ms Lusby will be appearing from 6.15am this Saturday to answer questions posted through the social media application.
But if you don't feel like bolting out of bed first thing Saturday morning to witness the reveal, here are some thoughts from Ms Lusby, reproduced in the press release:
"As a young designer in a dynamic field, it's important for me to share the exciting honour I've been given to help redefine the style and fashion of the most eminent luxury marque in the world. 'Wraith – Inspired by Fashion' provides an exquisite canvas to create a cool, daring and seductive motoring style, and I look forward to sharing our work with the world at the event in New York."
