Fast 2025 MINI Cooper JCW E hot hatch outed

All-electric MINI primed to be car-maker’s quickest hatch ever

The 2025 MINI Cooper JCW E has been leaked by the China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ahead of its debut later this year.

Previewed by the John Cooper Works E PROtotype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in July, the production version features a huge black blanked-out grille that gives the appearance of a giant air intake.

Look closer and you’ll see a more modest horizontal opening in the lower half of the bumper that features a two-bar grille.

A pair of secondary vertical intakes are thought to vent the front arches, with the small hatch concealing a complex array of air bending hardware set to add downforce while reducing drag.

Other aids introduced to improve stability at high speeds include new side skirts and aerodynamically-optimised 18-inch alloy wheels.

At the rear, there’s a new bumper that includes both a diffuser and extractors for the rear arches, with the hottest all-electric MINI getting new chequered-flag JCW badges on its tailgate, grille and interesting-looking vertical tailgate blades, plus a tailgate spoiler.

According to the leak, the JCW E will pack a punchy 190kW, up from the Cooper SE’s 160kW peak power output and yielding an expected 0-100km/h time of about 5.0 seconds on the way to an anticipated top speed of 200km/h.

There’s no word yet on what battery the JCW E will get, but we do know weighs a hefty 1670kg and isn’t expected to match the Cooper SE’s 401km WLTP-verified range.

A limited-slip differential, overhauled chassis, track-oriented rolling stock, big brakes and torque vectoring are all primed for inclusion and have become par for the course on an electric performance car.

It’s worth noting the electric MINI is based on a GWM platform, rather than a BMW architecture, and is thought to be able to support dual-motors, suggesting an even-quicker all-wheel drive JCW E GP could be in the pipeline.
