Fast Alpina B4 Gran Coupe teased

German tuner to expand its line-up to include fast four-door coupe based on BMW 4 Series

Alpina has released a fresh teaser of the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe that's based on the latest-generation BMW 4 Series and is set to launch in Europe later this month.

Posting a single image of the 2022 Alpina B4 Gran Coupe, the famed German tuner's latest creation will feature a small lip spoiler and its trademark pinstripe decoration.

Set to be based on the 430ix variant of the G26-generation BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, under the bonnet the fast B4 Gran Coupe will share the latest B3 sedan's twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder and produce an identical 345kW and 700Nm of torque.

That's 50Nm more torque than the current BMW M3, but 30kW less power.

It's thought the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe will only come with all-wheel drive and feature a tweaked version of its eight-speed automatic that has been beefed up to cope with the extra torque.

It will also offer quicker shifts and improved responses compared to the standard car.

Performance should be explosive for a small four-door. Expect the B4 to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and top out at around 305km/h.

Once launched, a diesel-powered D4 Gran Coupe is expected to be offered in some markets, featuring a tuned twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six that will produce 261kW/730Nm.

It should be able to blend a 4.6-second 0-100km/h time with the ability to average 6.7L/100km.

Whether you choose petrol or diesel, the Alpina B4 will come with a bespoke suspension tune that will feature new springs and dampers that aim to offer more body control compared to a BMW M440i but greater levels of comfort beside a more extreme BMW M3.

The all-wheel drive calibration will also be adjusted for greater agility, while the introduction of a new mechanical limited-slip differential should guarantee a rear-biased handling.

Featuring a traditionally subtle body kit, the Alpina will get unique badging, an upgraded interior and its trademark 19- or 20-inch Dynamic alloy wheels.

Following its March unveiling, the Alpina B4 Gran Coupe is expected be priced from about $150,000 in Australia at launch later this year, matching the outgoing Alpina B4 S BiTurbo Coupe.
