Fast Ferrari has left the building

The Ferrari seized last week after it was allegedly caught on radar at 231km/h has been released from police custody after a seven-day stint behind bars.

The Ferrari California convertible, one of just two in Australia and worth about $500,000, was freed without a scratch on it and with the same kilometres on its trip meter as when it was impounded.

Indeed, it seems police caretakers resisted the urge to take the car for a drive or move it even a millimetre, as it was found exactly where it was left seven days earlier.

The car was released into the custody of local Ferrari representatives about midday today (Monday).

The car had been stored at the WA Police Property Centre in Beaumont Street because it was deemed too valuable to store it at the regular vehicle impound where other seized cars are kept.

A small gathering of local media filmed the car’s departure.

It is now understood the car is making its way back to Sydney on a transporter to continue its national tour and test drive program with potential customers.

The bright red Ferrari made headlines around the world last week after a motoring journalist was stopped by police allegedly driving at 231km/h.

The driver was charged with dangerous driving and speeding offences and faces a minimum six month licence suspension.

The car was being driven through the wheat belt of WA, about 100km north east of Perth.
An unmarked police car happened upon the speeding Ferrari on the quiet back road as the officer was returning to his station for a routine break.

Ferrari representatives in Australia requested the car be released early but the request was declined.
