Ford has confirmed it will offer a High Performance Pack for its turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost-powered Ford Mustang.
Set to be unveiled on Wednesday at the New York motor show, the new High Performance Package-equipped Ford Mustang EcoBoost cars sees power and torque rise to 246kW and 475Nm – and increase of 13kW and 43Nm compared to the current car.
Originally, it was hoped that Ford Performance would turn up the Ford Mustang EcoBoost's power to match the 257kW output of the Focus RS since it uses a closely-related version of the same engine, but the new High Performance Pack misses that output by some margin.
At least the new upgrade sees the Mustang EcoBoost produce significantly more torque than the 440Nm the Focus RS can muster.
As well as more power, Ford says the revised four-cylinder now delivers a wider, broader torque curve, while delivering 90 per cent of its peak torque from 2500-5300rpm.
Against the clock, Ford now claims with the High Performance Package fitted, the faster Mustang is capable of a 'mid-four second' run to 60mph (97km/h) – around a second quicker than the current car with a higher 250km/h top speed (+16km/h).
Helping liberate the extra power, Ford Performance engineers resorted to developing new cylinder-heads and introducing a larger twin-scroll turbocharger.

Aiding cooling, the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine also gets a larger radiator, while a new active quad-tip sports exhaust completes the changes over the standard car.
To help deal with the increase in performance, Ford has overhauled the standard car's suspension tune.
The changes include adding an alloy strut tower to stiffen the chassis at the front and adding revised thicker anti-roll bars.
More powerful four-piston brakes have also been added, plus a standard limited-slip differential and new lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels.
Externally, a High Performance Pack-equipped Mustang gets a new front splitter that hides underbody brake-cooling vents.
A blacked-out grille, grey side mirrors and a rear spoiler complete the exterior changes.
Inside, there's just a new aluminium instrument panel surround that now includes oil pressure and turbo boost gauges.
Finally, as well as the introduction of the High Performance Pack, four new exterior colours become available – Grabber Lime, Iconic Silver, Red Hot Metallic and Twister Orange.
If that's not enough to make you reconsider the EcoBoost-powered 'Stang over its V8 sibling, Ford Performance says it will give you the option of wider-still 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa 4 tyres, a beefier rear anti-roll bar, MagneRide adaptive dampers, even more powerful brakes and a Torsen limited-slip differential.
Ford says you can order a High Performance Package on Mustangs with either the six-speed manual or the 10-speed auto but the upgrade is only available on the coupe.
There's no word on pricing yet for the new performance-enhancing kit, nor any confirmation if the High Performance Pack will be offered on EcoBoost Mustangs in Australia.
