Fastest MINI ever here early next year
MINI confirms 30 Australian examples of its rapid new JCW GP hot-hatch, priced at $56,900Just days after the reveal of the new John Cooper Works GP hot-hatch in Europe, MINI has confirmed 30 examples will be available in Australia from early 2013, priced at a cool $56,900 plus on-road costs.
That makes the fastest MINI ever about $15,000 more expensive than the MINI Cooper S upon which it’s based, but the lightweight two-seat three-door features a range of go-fast additions – on top of the exclusivity guaranteed by a global production run of just 2000 examples.
Powered by a race-tuned 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine developing no less than 160kW, the hardcore MINI hatch rides on racetrack-ready adjustable coil-over suspension and is stopped by high performance brakes and a traction control system with specific ‘GP’ mode. MINI bills the JCW GP as the fastest car it has ever produced because it lapped the Nurburgring in 8:23 minutes and blasts to 100km/h in just 6.3 seconds, and with most of Australia’s allocation already sold it looks like selling out here as quickly as it goes.
“Judging by customer reactions to date the MINI JCW GP is set to become an instant collector’s item,” said MINI Australia General Manager, Kai Bruesewitz. “Designed and built with performance and race track suitability in mind, this limited-edition MINI JCW GP has been reworked from the ground up with years of racing heritage know-how from the John Cooper Works engineers.
“The appeal for hot-hatch aficionados and track day racers will mean the GP edition won’t sit in showrooms for long so interested customers should move quickly,” said Mr Bruesewitz.
