The Chief Executive's role at the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries will be held down by Stephen Payne while the hunt continues for a permanent successor to Andrew McKellar.
McKellar has stepped down to join the Australian Automobile Association, which oversees the activities of state-based motoring associations, such as the NRMA and the RACV, to name two.
The FCAI, the body that represents automotive manufacturers and importers in Australia and monitors new-car sales through VFACTS, recruited Payne for the role, based on his long-standing automotive experience in the federal public service.
Payne resigned from the Federal Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research late last year, after 30 years of public service, including participation in the Bracks review of the automotive industry, administering government programs for the industry and heading up the division that advised the government about the industry. He was also employed at the Department of Resources and Energy as a ministerial adviser.
