Fed Square car shows
Shannons has put together six classic car shows at Federation Square in MelbourneMelbourne car enthusiasts take note: a free classic car show beginning on Sunday June 28th at Federation square in the city and running on the last Sunday of each month until Christmas has been established.
Motoring enthusiast group Shannons is behind the intriguing idea which is expected to attract car lovers of all ages to see different categories and eras of classic cars once a month.
The first free exhibit at Fed Square in the heart of Melbourne on Sunday June 28th will be a "display of fabulous sporting cars from the 1920s and 1930s by the Vintage Drivers Club" says Shannons.
Each of the Shannons Showcases, which are free of charge, will run from 11.00am until 2.30pm on the last Sunday of each month. A full list of car types showing until Christmas is listed below.
Sunday July 26th
This second show will be of great interest to German sports car fanatics as 50 Porsches from all eras will be on display by the Yarra river.
Sunday September 27th
Volkswagen fans mark it in the diary, as early split rear window Beetles to modern day turbo Golf models will be on show thanks to the Volkswagen Club of Victoria.
Sunday November 29th
The (Ford) Capri Car Club will have the final show of the year, displaying a range of classic Capri models.
The free 'Shannons Showcase' car shows will be fairly unmissable: the cars will be found along Federation Square's Flinders Street frontage, from the entrance to the Atrium and ACMI to St.Paul’s Court, just before Swanston Street explains Shannons.
"This is an exciting concept which we really believe will catch the public's imagination," said Shannons Business Development Manager -- Victoria, Richard Sanders.
"We're excited about working in with Federation Square, as each display will get a huge audience -- both of enthusiasts and city visitors lucky enough to be in the area on each Sunday."
Sanders added that the idea of these regimented car displays had generated "enormous interest" from Victorian car clubs.
"There is a waiting list in excess of two and a half years for clubs to showcase their members' treasures in the centre of Melbourne," he said. "We have really tapped a nerve with enthusiasts."
