Ferrari has pulled the drapes off a new track-only version of its outgoing 488 supercar that it's created for wealthy track-day fans.
Called the Ferrari 488 GT Modificata, the new Italian supercar is not road-legal and has been developed for exclusive track days and Ferrari Club Competizioni GT events it holds for its owners.
Borrowing plenty from the Ferrari 488 GT3 and GTE race cars, the new track tool is not limited by strict FIA regulations, hence why the 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo now produces 515kW – around 25-105kW more than the Balance of Power limited racer, depending on the series.
With the extra performance, engineers have modified the racer's carbon-fibre clutch and altered the ratios of the six-speed sequential transmission.
Featuring a carbon-fibre body with an aluminium roof, the 488 GT Modificata is believed to weigh comfortably less than the GT3 in race trim, which tips the scales at 1260kg.
Better still, without any downforce restrictions, the Ferrari 488 GT Modificata generates an incredible 1000kg at 230km/h without any compromises in drag and high-speed performance along the straights.
Beneath the skin, the track-focused Ferrari uses brakes from the 488 GTE racer and the latest ABS system developed for the current 488 GT3 Evo.
Inside, the Italian supercar-maker has installed a few useful additions for the amateur racer. There's a full passenger seat for an instructor, a rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and full on-board telemetry.
Ferrari has yet to announce pricing for its 488 GT Modificata that will be strictly track-only, with no road-legal version planned.
Sadly, if you're in the market for a lighter, more powerful GT3 racer, the Italian car-maker says it will only offer the 488 GT Modificata to existing owners who have recently participated in one of its recent Ferrari club track events.
