Ferrari's 492kW/760Nm 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 has been voted best engine by a panel of judges in the 2016 International Engine of the Year awards.
The powerful turbocharged V8 also won best engine in the 3.0-4.0-litre category, best new engine and performance engine of the year.
Powering the 488 GTB coupe, the 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo took the top prize after the jury declared it better than both the 1.5-litre hybrid that powers the BMW i8 and the 3.0-litre flat-six turbo that powers the new range of Porsche 911s (991-series).
Peugeot Citroen’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo, Ford's 1.0-litre turbo, Mercedes-AMG's new 2.0-litre turbo, plus Audi's 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo and Ferrari's monstrous 574kW 6.3-litre V12, which powers the F12tdf, were all short-listed for the top prize.
