Ferrari 599 GTO exposed?
Beefed-up V12 coupe will be the fastest road-going 599 available to customersFerrari recently unleashed the stove-hot, racetrack-only 599XX at the Geneva motor show, but Maranello's prancing horse is now readying a slightly more sedate version that's fit for road duty.
The grainy image alongside (outed by US-based Fast Lane Daily) allegedly reveals the 599 GTO, an uprated version of the V12-powered coupe that will sit above the existing GTB and HGTE models.
No tech details are as yet available, but Euro sources are tipping a kerb weight around 1600kg (compared with 1690kg for the stocker), while power is likely to be ramped up to 500kW-plus. The standard GTB ekes out 456kW and 608Nm.
Rather than switching to a dual-clutch transmission (a la 458 Italia), it's believed the GTO will retain the donor car's F1 sequential gearbox, albeit with shift times abbreviated to a quickfire 60 milliseconds.
As illustrated by this slightly dodgy image, the GTO also adopts some of the aero aids pioneered by the 599XX -- which, incidentally, is said to be a staggering 10 seconds a lap quicker around the Fiorano test track than even the ultra-focused Enzo.
Some sources are predicting a 0-100km/h split of 3.2sec (matching the new Porsche 911 Turbo), while top speed will allegedly nudge 350km/h.
UK's Autocar is tipping a June on-sale date in Europe, but pricing for the low-volume Fezza remains a mystery. As they say in the classics, all will be revealed... eventually.
