Ferrari has staged the Australian debut of its most powerful production convertible to date, the Ferrari 812 GTS first revealed in September.
The covers were removed from the drop-top version of the Ferrari 812 Superfast coupe this morning at the Italian car maker’s North Shore showroom in Sydney.
Ferrari’s first front-mounted V12 convertible in decades will be priced at $675,888 plus on-road costs – at least $65,000 more than the $610K 812 Superfast on which it’s based – and that first customer deliveries are due in Australia until the fourth quarter of 2020.
Unlike other Ferrari models, you don’t have to be a current Ferrari owner to get your hands on one, although a spokesman for Ferrari Australia told media at the local launch that the 812 GTS is targeted towards “passionate Ferrari connoisseurs”.
“These are people that know that brand intimately, that have purchased vehicles from us in the past – they like to race – but most importantly they appreciate the open-top with the V12 sound,” he said.
Like the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the GTS uses a front-mounted 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine to produce 588kW of power and 718Nm of torque.
That means it’s good for 0-100km/h acceleration in less than three seconds and a top speed upwards of 340km/h.
Sharing its short wheelbase and active aerodynamics with the Superfast, the GTS features a rigid hard-top that can be opened and closed in 14 seconds up to speeds of 45km/h.
There’s also a ‘unique’ sports electronic power steering system is standard, linked to the vehicle’s dynamic control systems.
Ferrari Australia says it will confirm pricing for the new 812 GTS in January 2020.
