, users claim invitations had already been received from the famous Italian car-maker, for a private unveiling at Ferrari's Maranello HQ.This suggests the Ferrari 812 Superfast Spider could be officially revealed later that month.
According to the owners invited but not confirmed by Ferrari, instead of a limited-run model, the 812 Spider will be made in far greater volumes with a premium of around €40,000 (A$65,000) charged over the coupe.
Back in November, it was suggested on the same forum the V12 convertible would use a folding hardtop mechanism that looks almost identical to the one found on the 488 Spider.
If so, the 812 Superfast will be the first convertible V12-powered Ferrari since the 575 Superamerica to use a ‘proper’ folding roof.
The earlier 550 Barchetta Pininfarina and the latter 599 SA Aperta and most recent F12-based F60 America all came with a flimsy fabric roof that offered little protection from the elements.
Whatever the roof, the appeal of a 812 drop-top, powered by the same incredible 588kW/718Nm naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12, will be almost irresistible to fans (and owners) of the current 812 Superfast.
Even with the additional weight of a folding roof, the drop-top's performance is primed to remain explosive, with the V12 convertible easily capable of a sub-2.9sec sprint to 100km/h and a top speed of more than 340km/h.
Down Under, it’s not yet known how much of a premium Ferrari Australia will charge over the regular 812 Superfast, which costs $609,888 (plus on-road costs).
The latest 812 Spider will follow on from the ultra-limited million-dollar Monza SP1 and Monza SP2.
