Ferrari checks out

Ferrari lets golfer loose in design department

It could have been worse. Much, much worse... That’s the motoring.com.au verdict following delivery of a personalised Ferrari FF to a rich Brit living Stateside.

The custom FF is the first fruit to lob in the US of A via Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalisation program. The fact it’s been conceived by a tartan loving Brit golfer who has gazumped both Rod and Jackie Stewart to create the first ever Fazza to use the revered Scottish motif will be big news in Scotland.

Back in Wolfsburg, Germany, however, there are a bunch of ageing designers of the original Golf GTI wondering what all the fuss is about.

Of course, there was a time when prestige brands such as Ferrari took the position that the factory knew best, and just as there are things best left unsaid, there are styling combinations best left, well, uncombined. These days money talks, however, and the Prancing Horse’s Tailor Made program is designed to extract more from the pockets of those who have plenty by offering them the opportunity to pimp their ride.

So it was that leading British golfer Ian Poulter took delivery of North America’s first ever Tailor Made Ferrari, a unique Ferrari FF that the Italian outfit says “reflects his personality and design skills.”

Whether you like it or not, Poulter does at least have a sense of style and is reportedly renowned in golf circles for “his unique personal dress sense”.

For this season’s new look Poulter chose a triple layer pearlescent white exterior paint dubbed ‘Sabbia’, which our extensive research tells us (we Googled it) is a municipality in the Province of Vercelli in the Italian region of Piedmont, and is located about 100km northeast of Turin. So there!

Inside, the hard-putting Pom specified black Poltrona Frau leather with highlights trimmed in the Tartan cloths that are a trademark of his IJP Design fashion lines (the bloke has his own clothing company, as you do).

Red highlights on the dashboard and instruments complement...something... While the boot is lined with carbon-fibre and a golfing-related sports fabric. Carbon Tiger, perhaps?

Ferrari says Tailor Made enables owners to select materials and designs that reflect their own life, personality and passions and for these to be used in their new Ferrari.

We can hardly wait to see the John Daly Loudmouth.com floral fabric covered 458 Italia.
