The opening race of the 2011 Formula One season is about to shift into gear at Albert Park. And Melbournians will be treated to a very special live show at Federation Square three days prior to the big event.
In an Australian first, two-time F1 World Champion and Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver Fernando Alonso will be showing off the his skills behind the wheel of an F1 driving simulator, around a virtual Albert Park circuit. The event is free and open to the public, and will be Alonso's only public appearance in Australia.
The simulator system is not just any old arcade game either; it's one of the most expensive and advanced simulator systems in the world, similar to the one that is used by Ferrari drivers to gain practice and learn the intricacies of various race tracks.
Alonso will be showcasing his natural talent at Federation Square in Melbourne at 11.00am on Thursday March 24, with his driving prowess being beamed onto a giant screen for attendees to observe.
Alonso finished the 2010 season in second place, a few points ahead of Australian Mark Webber, and will be seeking to go one better in 2011.
Shell Australia and Scuderia Ferrari will also have something for the fans, giving away the ultimate Ferrari Simulator driving experience. Attendees simply have to prove their Shell/Ferrari knowledge and will go into the draw to win various prizes.
The 2011 Scuderia Ferrari F1 race car, the F150th Italia, will also be on display at the free event, which represents another Australian first and will be a must-see for die-hard Ferrari fans.
