Ferrari Australasia has announced it will support an official category in this year’s Targa Florio Australian Tribute motorsport event in Victoria later this year.
The new Ferrari Tributo category will be open to Ferrari vehicles manufactured from 1977 onwards while older Ferraris will participate in the Targa Florio Classic category against historic vehicles manufactured between 1907 and 1976.
This year’s event will be the second running of Targa Florio Australia, which debuted last year as the first Targa Florio event outside of Italy.
The iconic Italian event has been run since 1906, starting and finishing in Palermo, Sicily.
It was a precursor to modern Formula 1 racing and saw participation from Ferrari founder, Enzo Ferrari. Today the event runs as both a motorsport event and a historical tribute to legendary classics.
Ferrari Australasia CEO Herbert Appleroth said Ferrari was thrilled to be officially involved in the local Targa Florio event.
“The spectacular roads of Victoria will provide a stunning backdrop with which to illustrate our longstanding Targa Florio history and underline the affinity Australia has with Ferrari,” he said at the announcement last night.
“We are excited to share this racing heritage with our Australian Ferraristi and encourage everyone to join us for the celebrations.”
The 2018 Targa Florio Australian Tribute will take place between November 28 and December 2.
Starting in Geelong, the timed regularity event will cover over 1100km taking in Cape Schanck, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Gippsland and the Yarra Valley, before ending in Melbourne.
More information including event entry forms can be found at the official Targa Florio Australian Tribute website.
