If Ferrari's product never goes down in history for the direct benefits it confers on Mother Earth, the company is putting in plenty of work alongside its industry compatriots to minimise the bruises they leave on Her face.
Most notable are the unveiling in January of a massive solar power generation system, the announcement of plans to go live mid-year with a super-efficient tri-generation system covering virtually all the company's power requirements and a substantial greening program.
Taking advantage of the vast roofspace atop its engine machining facility in Modena, the 1075 photovoltaic module solar power system will provide the company with around 210,000 kilowatt hours a year.
The tri-generation plant will boost the efficiency of its share of power generation duties from about 30 per cent to over 80 per cent by diverting heat energy that would otherwise go to waste into heating and cooling facilities in its offices and factories.
Ferrari says the new facilities will come close to covering all its power requirements, slicing 25-30 per cent off its CO2 emissions during 2009.
The greening program, meanwhile, has seen gardens and hundreds of trees planted just over the latter half of 2008, including inside some buildings. It has raised the Modena facility's green space quotient to around 165,000 square metres.
