Ferrari has been caught patenting a novel design for packaging an EV's battery pack that could preview its upcoming pure-electric family of supercars.
Filed with the US Patent Office in 2019 but only published late last month, the blueprints suggest engineers will place its mid-mounted batteries both under the floor and mid-ship within car behind the driver and passenger seats.

Mounted in a large sub-frame that simply bolts onto the centre tub, it's thought the modular approach could see it used on numerous other supercars.
As well as working with an all-electric powertrain, the famous Italian car-maker also suggests the large battery could be swapped out for a conventional combustion engine that, along with the remaining underfloor batteries, would provide the ideal basis for a plug-in hybrid.

Placing the battery midship could help engineers create more engaging and agile handling than a conventional skateboard platform.
It also allows the driver and passenger to sit lower in the chassis for the full supercar experience.
Last year Ferrari announced that it would introduce its first all-electric model in 2025, but it's not known if the car-maker is readying a zero-emissions supercar or battery-electric variant of the Ferrari Purosangue SUV.
