Silverstone is the place where it all began for Ferrari. Froilan Gonzalez posted the Italian manufacturer's first win in Formula One when he drove his Ferrari 375 to victory at the British circuit.
It thus seemed only right that the historic circuit should be the venue for a celebration of the marque and its 60-year history.
385 cars made their way to Silverstone last weekend to set a new record for the largest number of Ferraris in one setting at the same time. Of those 385, no fewer than forty were the very rare and exotic F40 -- virtually a racing car in an enclosed body.
The organisers of the event arranged for scrutineers from the Guiness Book of Records to attend to confirm that the record is broken and the moment will be recorded in the next edition of the famous publication.
To break the record, the assembled cars had to travel two miles (3.2km), each car separated by two car-lengths or less. The convoy was led by a 599 GTB Fiorano driven by Bruno Senna, nephew of the late Ayrton Senna.
