Fettled Ford Mondeo for SEMA

New-generation Ford Mondeo gets 300kW power boost for SEMA car show in Las Vegas

US-based car tuning group Full-Race Motorsports has revealed a stove hot version of the latest Ford Fusion, or Mondeo as it’s badged in Australia, due to arrive Down Under in late-2014.

The pimped and pumped, next-generation Fusion will be displayed at the world's biggest aftermarket exhibition, SEMA in Las Vegas from November 5 to 8, and also features an Android tablet integrated into the dash to record telemetry among other things.

The Full-Race Fusion is powered by the same 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine under the bonnet of some Ford Falcons in Australia, though its output has been raised from 179kW/366Nm to a tyre-frying 298kW/474Nm.

The Arizona-based car tuner has put together a big boost program consisting of a larger BorgWarner turbocharger, cold air intake and new exhaust system. The car's engine computer was also recalibrated to deal with the increased fuel requirements.

As well as a drop body kit, what appears to be lowered suspension, and aftermarket alloy wheels, the fast Ford also gets an upgraded leather interior and a tech boost thanks to the dashboard integration of a 7-inch Android tablet.

"The tablet operates on the Android system and allows the driver to do all kinds of data logging or connect to wireless Internet," said Eric Marquiss of Full-Race Motorsports.

The new-generation Ford Mondeo will be almost identical to the American Ford Fusion, but is not due to arrive in Australia for at least another year, after Ford delayed its launch due to production issues. The vehicle was originally built at its Belgian plant but after it was shut down, production moved to a Spanish facility.

The new Mondeo is set to introduce a number of firsts for the Australian market, including inflatable seatbelt 'airbags' for the rear seats and an advanced version of its Microsoft-powered infotainment system with SYNC voice activation.

Engine choices are likely to be expanded to include a brand new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine delivering 133kW/240Nm, as well as diesel powerplants.
