Ford will officially commence selling the new FG Falcon in May. Ahead of the on-sale date, the company has released full details of the new model's pricing.
Overall, the high-line models are actually cheaper than the BF equivalents they replace, but the base XT and the naturally aspirated XR6 have come up in price marginally.
"With the entry-level XT increasing in price by just $500 compared to its predecessor and the exciting new G6E Turbo setting a new sports luxury benchmark for less than $55,000, customers are sure to appreciate the world-class quality and value offered by the latest Falcon range," said Ford Australia President, Bill Osborne.
The entry-level XT, which is now auto-only (with the new five-speed automatic replacing the locally built four-speed unit in the BF), starts the range off at $36,490.
In accordance with Ford's two-pronged model range for the FG sedans, the base XR6 and the base G6 are now priced at the same level ($39,990), but the G6 is fitted with the same five-speed box as in the XT, whereas the XR6 comes equipped as standard with the six-speed manual transmission. In adjusting the G6 and XR6 to meet at the same pricing point, Ford has effectively reduced the price of the BF Fairmont equivalent by a substantial 7.4 per cent over, but the FG XR6 has risen by 0.7 per cent over its BF counterpart.
Along with the new pricing structure, Ford is also introducing new option packs for the range. Available on the XT, G6 and all XR variants, the Technology Pack features Bluetooth connectivity and iPod audio compatibility for $450.
Side curtain airbags, electrically adjustable pedals for automatic models and a perimeter alarm system make up the Safety Pack, priced at $600. The curtain airbags are also available in isolation for $300.
A Luxury Pack for the XR models includes leather seat trim, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system, sports steering wheel and 19-inch alloy wheels. Fitted to the XR6, the Luxury Pack is priced at $5400, due to the two-inch diameter upgrade for the wheels. For XR6 Turbo and XR8, the price of the Luxury Pack is $5000.
Ford's pricing announcement applies to the Ute and BF III wagon models also. The details are as follows:
