Fiat confirms Ritmo pricing

Punto's big brother starts just under $30K

Ateco Automotive, the distributor for the Fiat marque, has announced that the entry-level variant of the Fiat Ritmo will be priced at $29,990. That sort of money will put buyers in the driver's seat of a Fiat Ritmo Emotion with the 1.4-litre 'T-Jet' turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission.

For an extra $2500, the Ritmo can be ordered in the base Emotion grade with the 1.9-litre MultiJet turbodiesel ($33,490). That variant is also fitted with a six-speed manual transmission.

The Ritmo is not currently available with an automatic transmission option, but Fiat has committed to releasing the Dualogic models later this year (more here).

Above the Ritmo Emotion, Fiat is offering the new model in a higher level of trim, the Ritmo Sport, which can be ordered with either of the two engine options listed for the Ritmo Emotion.

Prices for the new model range go as high as $36,490 for the Ritmo Sport MultiJet. The Ritmo Sport T-Jet slots in underneath at $32,990.

Both engines develop 110kW of power, but the T-Jet develops 230 Nm of torque at 3000rpm while the MultiJet engine generates 305Nm torque from 2000rpm.

Fuel consumption is 7.1L/100km for the T-Jet variants and the CO2 emissions have been measured at 167g/km. In the case of the MultiJet models, fuel consumption is 5.6L/100km. Fiat claims acceleration times to 100km/h from a standing start of 8.2 seconds for the T-Jet, 9.0 seconds for the MultiJet Ritmo.

Standard equipment for all variants includes: ABS, EBD, traction control, ESP, a hill-holder, MSR to prevent brake-lock during downshifts, electric windows, exterior mirrors, cruise control, power steering, remote central locking, an advanced audio system, air conditioning and alloy wheels.

In addition, the Ritmo Sport variants come with a rear spoiler, side skirts, climate control, sports pedals, front sports seats with lumbar adjustment for the driver's seat, leather-trimmed sports steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake knobs, sports upholstery, red brake callipers and 17-inch alloy wheels with 225/45 tyres.

The 'Blue&Me' telematics facility, which combines hands-free Bluetooth connectivity with an MP3-compatible audio system, multi-function display, USB port, SMS-text reader and remote controls on the steering wheel, is also fitted to the Ritmo Sport variants (more here 2877344).

According to the Euro NCAP crash testing program, the Ritmo scores five stars for adult occupant safety, three for children and two for pedestrians.
