Fiat looks to be one step closer to saying ciao to Australia, with the Italian marque confirming it will no longer import the Fiat 500e and Abarth 500e electric hatchbacks. Given petrol versions of the Fiat and Abarth hatchbacks haven't been imported for some time, dealers are now left to sell remaining stock.

The news comes just weeks after Inchcape announced it was handing French car brand Peugeot back to Stellantis – it too facing dwindling sales amid fierce competition, despite saying it plans to remain in Australia.
A spokesperson for Stellantis says Fiat plans to do the same.
“As part of Stellantis Australia's ongoing portfolio and product planning process, the availability of specific models can vary over time as we assess market demand and future product opportunities,” they said in a statement.
“We remain focused on ensuring the vehicles we bring to Australia meet customers’ expectations.
“Following Stellantis' recent confirmation of Fiat as one of its core global brands, we are excited by the opportunities the brand presents for the future.”
Word is the bulk of Australia's 500e (Fiat and Abarth) has now largely been sold through, with the spokesperson adding the brand was “not planning additional orders” while it evaluates “future product opportunities for the local market”.
According to the latest round of VFACTS sales figures, Fiat’s passenger car sales were down 30.4 per cent year-to-date, having shifted just 144 units in the first half of the year and just 207 units in 2025.
The Road Ahead
With the EVs headed out the door and no new stock of the petrol-powered Fiat 500 and its Abarth 695 hot hatch stablemate due for our shores, Fiat's passenger car future in Australia is under a cloud as local stock dries up.
Confirming its commitment to the local market, Stellantis Australia said it would continue to support Fiat and Abarth customers, as well as its dealer network.
“[We] look forward to sharing more information about Fiat’s and Abarth’s future plans in Australia at the appropriate time”.
