First Aston Martin Valkyrie rolls off the line

Wild British V12 hypercar beats Mercedes-AMG ONE to market

Aston Martin is celebrating the completion of the first of 150 examples of the 2021 Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, five years after the original concept was unveiled.

As well as the 150 road-going coupes, Aston Martin has confirmed it will also build an additional 85 Spider versions and 40 track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro models.

The headline news for the road-going version is it will be powered by a Cosworth-developed naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that, alone, develops 746kW and is capable of revving to 11,100rpm.

Combined with a hybrid system, total power is said to exceed 849kW – which is slightly down on the pre-production car's 865kW. It's thought total torque output remains pegged at 900Nm.

Featuring a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) borrowed from Formula 1, the hybrid tech has been co-developed by Rimac and Integral Powertrains.

Red Bull Racing has been honing its aerodynamic development, helping create a package of air-bending measures that generates up to a mighty 1816kg of downforce.

Benefiting from plenty of input from F1 legend Adrian Newey, the production Valkyrie also features an ultra-lightweight construction that allows for a 1:1 power-to-weight distribution.

Reflecting the phenomenal performance on tap, each Valkyrie features a reclined ‘feet up’ position that's similar to an F1 car, plus a four-point harness as standard. An optional six-point system for track use is also available.

As part of its build, each Valkyrie will undertake shake-down laps at the car-maker's R&D hub at the Silverstone race circuit to ensure they are customer-ready and set up for track use.

As well as completing the first run of 150 coupes, Aston Martin says it's on track for Valkyrie AMR Pro deliveries before the end of this year, ahead of the launch of the Valkyrie Spider that will be introduced in 2022.
