A trademark application has revealed new details of a battery-powered Ferrari GT that will rival the Porsche Taycan and be on sale before 2025.
The patent drawings, leaked on
, appear to suggest the famous Italian supercar-maker is readying a 2+2 GT coupe that will mimic the 812 Superfast's classic long bonnet and short overhangs. The blueprints suggest Ferrari is planning to equip its first EV with four electric motors – one to power each wheel in an all-wheel drive configuration.
That should allow engineers to calibrate the level of torque vectoring more precisely than with any mechanical alternative.
To reign in the cost of development, it's been rumoured that Ferrari is aiming to share technology and some hardware with the new SF90 hypercar, which blends a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with not one but three electric motors to produce 736kW.
As well as producing huge amounts of power, the first Ferrari EV will boast a new lightweight construction, perhaps including a full carbon-fibre monocoque and liberal use of new composite materials.
