The first clues as to the composition of the second-generation 2025 Mitsubishi ASX line-up have emerged online following the new compact SUV’s official ADR certification.
According to homologation documents seen by carsales, the new Renault Captur-based ASX will launch with three trim levels – LS, Aspire, Exceed – and come with just one powertrain: a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder good for 113kW/270Nm.
Drive will be sent exclusively to the front wheels by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, as per the mechanically identical Captur which will also arrive Down Under in the coming months – the ASX is due in October.
An important note here is that the ASX misses out on the mild, full and plug-in hybrid powertrains offered in Europe, with the same true of its Renault donor car.
Odds are more variants will be added to the range at a later date, but they’re almost guaranteed to be additional trim levels as opposed to alternative drive systems.
For now though, the new ASX will almost certainly start well north of $30,000 plus on-road costs on account of its new, more muscular powertrain and significantly upgrades tech/safety systems.
The outbound LS already starts at $30,490 as it is, meaning the new model could be about to sacrifice one of its biggest draw cards: price – the current range opens from just $24,490 for the GS manual.
We’ll have to wait a little while longer before the local pricing and spec details are officially announced, but the ADR documentation shows the LS will ride on 17-inch wheels compared to the Aspire and Exceed’s 18s, with all variants sharing a 1200kg braked towing capacity (675kg unbraked).
