Billed as the world’s fastest, most powerful and best handling luxury SUV, the Aston Martin DBX707 is aimed directly at the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
Under the bonnet of the high-performance version of Aston’s inaugural SUV is a wild 520kW/900Nm iteration of Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, upping its outputs by an incredible 115kW/200Nm.
Aston Martin says that’s enough to propel its new high-riding flagship to 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds with the help of ‘Race Start’ (launch control), bettering the Porsche and matching the Urus, but not the upcoming 760kW electric Tesla Model X Plaid (2.6sec claimed).
In addition to its ballistic outputs, however, the Aston Martin DBX707’s performance credentials have also been stepped up via a new nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, huge carbon-ceramic brakes with six-pot callipers all round, an upgraded limited-slip differential and upgraded suspension, steering and drive modes.
Completing the package are more aggressive cosmetics, including a larger and now slatted radiator grille, bonnet louvres, a beefier front bumper with redesigned front splitter, bigger rear diffuser, new roof-mounted lip spoiler, larger exhaust outlets, gloss-black side skirts, dark satin chrome window surrounds and, inside, a lowered centre console, 16-way power-adjustable sports front seats and dark chrome switchgear.
