First look: New Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG

Fresh S-Class production video reveals 2014 Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG for the first time

Mercedes-Benz has offered the first sneak-peek at its redesigned S 63 AMG as part of an official promotional video to co-incide with the start of 2014 S-Class production at its Sindelfingen facility in Germany.

Clearly evident in the new video, which shows a factory worker driving an undisguised white S 63 off the production line, is the sixth-generation super-limousine’s more aggressive front bumper with larger chrome-free slats, bigger AMG alloy wheels and ‘S 63 AMG’ badging.

Wider front guards featuring V8 bi-turbo lettering confirm the new S 63 will continue to be powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine, which when specified with an optional performance upgrade is expected to offer around 410kW.

That should make the new S 63 quicker than current model, which offers 400kW/800Nm and can sprint to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds.

As with the facelifted E-Class, a 4MATIC all-wheel drive version of the new S-Class will not be available in Australia.

With the international launch due to kick off in a couple of weeks, first examples of the new S-Class will arrive here in September, in the shape of short- and long-wheelbase versions of S 500 (petrol V8) and S 350 BlueTEC (diesel V6).

Expect the S 63 AMG to arrive here in 2014, while S 65 AMG, S 500 Plug-In HYBRID, S 400 HYBRID and S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID diesel versions are yet to be confirmed for Australia.

The new S-Class will also be produced in CL-replacing S-Class Coupe, all-new S-Class Cabriolet and extra-long Pullman guises.
