First official pics: New MINI Clubman leaked

MINI’s all-new Clubman wagon has been leaked online ahead of its official reveal at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The pics, which appeared online late last night and follow an official teaser image released last week, show a more grown-up, bigger and more mature car compared to the quirky last generation.

Sharing the same front-wheel drive platform as the BMW 2 Series people-mover, the production version picks up where last year’s Geneva motor show concept left off by ditching the old car’s unusual twin passenger-side door layout.

Instead, there are now four conventional doors and the wagon is significantly bigger than the car it replaces, being both 260mm longer, 161mm wider and 24mm taller.

Taking its front-end stylistic inspiration from the well-received 2011 Rocketman concept seen at the Geneva show, the new MINI also gets a completely new interior — although the centrally mounted dinner plate-size speedo/nav layout lives on in the new car.

Underneath, the MINI retains the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer’s independent rear suspension. Expect the Clubman to get the MINI hatch’s full range of three- and four cylinder petrol and diesel engines. As evidenced by a previous spy video of the new Clubman, a plug-in hybrid version is also believed to be on the way and four-wheel drive could also be an option.

Details and dates and prices are expected to be announced at the Frankfurt show in September, with the European launch set to follow shortly after. We should get the small MINI wagon some time early in 2016.
