Perhaps wanting to ensure its facelifted Eos didn't get lost in the avalanche of fresh metal at the Paris motor show, Volkswagen is set to reveal its facelifted Eos tin-top convertible at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show (November 19-28).
However, the German carmaker has at least for now released images of the newbie, which adopts the new VW family face to integrate it with the rest of the company's model line-up.
The keyhole-shaped headlights and two-level grille of the current Eos have been binned, and new for the 2011 variant is a slimmer, sharp-edged headlight cluster (with LED daytime running lights), flanking a wide grille with a trio of horizontal chrome bars.
The bumper/spoiler assembly has also been simplified, featuring a large central air intake and well-integrated fog lights.
Similarly, the derriere gains new LED taillights that closely mimic those of the Golf VI, and there's a new bumper with sharper edges and built-in diffuser.
VW's press blurb says cabin ambience is improved by the use of better trim materials, as well as a new steering wheel and redesigned instrument panel. There's also the availability of a special Cool Leather finish that reflects the sun.
Other goodies that join the options list include a multi-function color Premium display, Lights Assist and the second generation of the Park Assist. The retractable hardtop roof can also be controlled by the wireless remote control.
Euro buyers will be able to choose from a range of powertrains, comprising one diesel and three petrol units. The base petrol engine is a 1.4-litre TSI unit with 90kW, and further upstream is a 118kW version of the same motor.
Topping the range is the 155kW 2.0-litre TSI engine that can also be found under the snout of the current Golf GTI, as we reported last week.
The current Eos continues to be a steady seller for VW, with 756 Australian sales until the end of September this year, placing it ahead of the Audi A3 Convertible (462 sales), Mazda MX-5 (349 sales) and Peugeot 308 Convertible (247 sales).
