Earlier this year, Dubai-based Lebanese start-up company W Motors raised eyebrows by unleashing the futuristic looking Lykan Hypersport at the Qatar motor show, and now the fledgling firm has released info and renderings of its second model, dubbed the Lykan Supersport. Despite its ‘Super’ moniker implying less extreme performance than the Hypersport, the proposed vehicle actually promises even more ballistic dynamic capabilities, even though it forgoes the diamond-encrusted headlights, gold stitching and holographic display of its stablemate.
The Supersport again uses a RUF-developed 3.7-litre twin-turbo flat-six, but power is boosted from the Hypersport’s 552kW to more than 735kW, and more remarkable still is that W Motors is targeting a kerb weight of less than 1200kg – undercutting even a Lotus Evora by around 200kg.
Its creator boasts of a sub-3sec 0-100km/h split and v-max of 395km/h for the Hypersport, so the mind boggles at what could be potentially achievable by the amped-up Supersport.
The potential sticking point for W Motors is that the car will cost virtually as much as a Bugatti Veyron at a hefty $1.7m. That said, this still represents a substantial saving over the $3.7m Hypersport.
At least it promises more exclusivity than the Veyron as W Motors plans to build and sell just 25 examples, following in the wheeltracks of the seven Hypersports that will precede it.
Deliveries of the Hypersport are scheduled to commence in 2014, with the company still scouting the United Arab Emirates for a suitable assembly site.
For what it’s worth, W Motors has succeeded in securing an array of blue-chip technology partners, including celebrated Porsche tweaker RUF, Studiotorino and Magna Steyr, which will supply the bodywork and interior.
Visually, the Supersport is every bit as gobsmacking as its Hypersport sibling, with a Batmobile-esque profile that looks as though it’s clad in lightweight armour plating.
There are scoops and vents galore, and the aggressive front splitter and rear diffuser endow it with the stance of a Le Mans racer.
W Motors is targeting a 2015 launch for the Supersport, and the company is said to be examining KERS energy-recovery systems to provide ultra-performance with reduced emissions.
