First video: Lexus TMG TS 650

Wild 478kW Lexus LS limousine in action for the first time

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) unveiled its Lexus-based TS 650 concept car at Germany’s Essen motor show last November and now it has released the first action video of the twin-turbo V8-powered super-limousine.

As we’ve reported, the most outrageous LS ever takes the production saloon’s standard 5.0-litre quad-cam V8 and eight-speed auto to new levels, with twin turbos eking out no less than 478kW and 710Nm of torque – enough to propel the 2070kg sedan to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds.

Combined with track-tuned suspension and bulging carbon-ceramic brakes, the TS 650 is Lexus’ answer to Audi’s latest S8 and the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG.

But well-heeled lovers of super-powered limousines shouldn’t get too excited: the TMG TS 650 is not destined for production but, as TMG's Alistair Moffit explains in this video, represents a rolling laboratory for technologies that could be wheeled out in future large performance cars from Lexus.

“In an exclusive 'one-off' car, TMG (Toyota Motorsport GmbH) have modified a Lexus to show what they can really do with a car like this,” said Lexus UK on its YouTube channel.

“Although this actual model won't see UK roads, elements of the engineering, design and technology may very well do.”

While you wait, have a listen to that bellowing big V8 at full noise.
