Fisker has fully unveiled the car its hopes will snatch sales from Tesla's Model S.
Called the EMotion, according to the US car maker the new pure-electric sedan will be officially launched on August 17 with customers taking deliveries this time next year.
Priced from $US129,900 ($A165,000) in North America where it goes on sale first, Fisker has confirmed the EMotion will come with a class-leading range of more than 650km thanks to its graphene battery technology — much more than the current Tesla Model S P100D.
The US car maker hasn't released full performance figures but says the EMotion will come with a 260km/h top speed.
Perhaps far more impressive is thanks to a battery pack and cooling system, developed in-house by the car maker, Fisker says a nine-minute charge, using its pioneering UltraCharger, will provide for a range of more than 160km.
The US car maker claims the EMotion will come with with self-driving capability thanks to a lidar system hidden in the car’s nose. The side mirrors, meanwhile, conceal two cameras. In total, the pure-electric sedan will be able to offer a 360-degree view.
It's not known what level of autonomous driving aids will be initially offered, nor if the self-driving aids will be available from launch.
Inside, designers claim to have maximised cabin space thanks to clever packaging liberated from the lack of a conventional petrol or diesel-powered powertrain with legroom said to match far larger luxury sedans.
The pure-electric Tesla-rival also has a far lower bonnet line compared to a conventional petrol.
Initially, the EMotion will be made by Michigan, USA-based VLF Automotive.
Following the launch of the EMotion, Fisker has already confirmed a cheaper, mass-market vehicle will follow that will be based on a new modular pure-electric car platform. That car is thought to be a direct rival for the Tesla Model 3.
