Fisker teases more of $50,000 SUV

Tesla Model Y SUV rival previewed by new pics on social media, gets full-length solar powered roof, indicators on rear pillars and is made of recycled materials

Fledgling US pure-electric car-maker, Fisker, has continued to tease its forthcoming mainstream SUV following its founder, Henrik Fisker, posted new pics to his personal Facebook page.

Set to make its public debut late this year in December, the new images reveal that the Tesla Model Y, or Hyundai Kona-rival will feature a novel full-length solar-panelled roof that will recharge its batteries when parked and run minor auxiliary functions when on the move.

A similar roof was used on the original Fisker Karma but has been updated with the latest solar-recharging tech for its new SUV.

With a price tag already to start from around $40,000 ($A55,000), the relaunched brand's CEO has confirmed its most affordable model will land in 2021 and mirror Tesla's strategy of selling direct to customers, rather than via a dealer network.

Another Facebook post, also revealed that the all-new battery-powered SUV would be made from recycled material, including debris recovered by the ocean.

Striking design details will feature on the car-maker's first SUV, says Henrik Fisker who claims the zero-emission SUV will have front fenders that look as though they have been lifted from a supercar.
