Five ANCAP stars for new Camry
Toyota’s fully-imported new-generation range scores top safety ratingToyota’s all-new fully-imported Camry range has been unveiled seven weeks after the end of local production at the Altona, Victoria plant and is now in dealerships.
And the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded the new-generation Camry the maximum five-star rating following its latest round of crash safety testing.
The new Camry, scored maximum points in ANCAP’s pole and side impact tests, and a high score of 15.16 points out of a possible 16 points in the frontal offset test.
In terms of pedestrian safety, the ANCAP testing saw the Camry achieve 27.23 points out of a possible 36 – an overall score described as ‘acceptable.’
Some ‘marginal and poor’ results were recorded at the base of the windscreen and on the windscreen pillars, while protection of the upper leg area was rated as ‘predominantly good or marginal.’
ANCAP praised Toyota for its fitment of low and high-speed autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist as standard on all Camry models.
“We’re pleased to see Toyota maintain its high level of safety with manufacturing of the Camry having now switched from local production to a Japanese-built model,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, James Goodwin.
The five-star rating applies to all models in the new Camry range, including four-cylinder, V6 and hybrid variants.
