Five Cars and Coffee events to check out

Not everyone sleeps in on the weekends. Car enthusiasts all over Australia like to get up early, polish their machines and get together for a coffee, a chat and to give their neighbour’s hardware a good once over.

The events are called Cars and Coffee and everyone is welcome to come and have a look. The pace is quiet (this isn’t motorsport, after all) and whether it’s an exotic, a classic Aussie muscle car, an old Pommie sporty or maybe a beloved vintage Japanese sedan there’s always something nice to see. Providing you’re into cars and coffee, of course.

Highball Cars and Coffee, various locations, Melbourne

The guys behind Highball Cars and Coffee manage a nice balance between holding well-run and regular events, yet keeping the morning casual, friendly and accessible. There are no fees (but donations go to Victoria Police Legacy), just keep an eye on the Facebook page because locations change for the Sunday morning dates. Yep, there is coffee and food vans and like most of these events you never know what cars might be around but they’ll always be interesting!

Cars at the Courthouse, Goulburn, NSW

This monthly (every last Sunday) get-together is a perfect opportunity for Canberrans and Sydney-siders to get out of town and travel to Goulburn. As the name suggests, whoever turns up parks outside the historic courthouse in Montague Street for a chat, a once-over of machinery and a coffee. Expect dignified Aussie country classics and perhaps a few surprises normally lurking from local sheds.

Don Mario’s Classic Cars and Coffee, Georgetown, Tasmania

Head north from Launceston to Georgetown on the first Sunday of every month and at Don Mario’s Restaurant the classic cars are out to play. Owner Rob Macedon is a V8 Falcon fan and usually parks a GT out front and anyone in the area is welcome to do likewise and drop in for a proper Italian coffee. Georgetown is on the mouth of the Tamar River and the driving loop back to Launceston takes in wineries and sweeping scenery.

Cars and Coffee Barossa, Nuriootpa, South Australia

It’s easy to find an excuse for a drive up to the Barossa Valley from Adelaide any Sunday morning, but this Cars and Coffee event makes the destination even sweeter for car-perves. On the first Sunday of the month outside Bean Addiction (there’s the coffee taken care of) a motley but always interesting bunch of older cars - and owners! – are happy to chat. Move on to a winery and probably lunch afterwards and your day is set.

Cars & Coffee Brisbane, various locations

The location changes occasionally but the concept never does, Brisbane car owners – and there’s a lot of them - now get together on the third Saturday of every month to park their machines, grab a coffee and shoot the breeze. Everybody is welcome to come and have a look or join in and the charity tins are always shaking. Latest location is the aptly-named Turbo Drive in Coorparoo, but check the Facebook page before heading out.
