The car seat back massage function is totally unnecessary but with so many luxury car models including it in the driver, front passenger and even rear passenger seats, its hard not to pass up the novelty of having a back massage on the move.

While the usual suspects of delivering high-end luxury fittings, finishes and features such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley include a massage feature amongst other things, you would be surprised to know that some more affordable vehicles have this creature comfort too. The latest Volkswagen Touareg has lifted its game and is aiming squarely at German luxury competitors BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. In the new Volkswagen Touareg, there are 10 massage options, regulating 10 pneumatic prodders with up to six centimetres of extension that can poke into your back and shoulders. According to the carsales team, this is one of the best massage systems yet and makes journeys rather soothing.

If you're after for a uniquely styled European sedan or wagon that will massage you on the go, look no further than the Peugeot 508. The Peugeot 508 comes standard in GT variant meaning you get loads of luxury features including Nappa leather seats with driver and passenger massage function. The seats are fully electric with driver memory function, electric lumbar support and are heated.

You wouldn't expect a competitively priced, Chinese import off-road SUV to feature on this list, would you? Believe it or not, the Haval H9 in Ultra trim level does feature a power-adjustable heated/ventilated driver seat with massage function. The Toyota Prado competitor is filled with tech, off-roading ability and will give the driver a nice back rub as they traverse the rocky hills or river crossings on their next weekend adventure.

Now this is a car not only for the driver and front passenger to enjoy a nice solid shiatzu but for rear passengers to literally put their feet up and relax. The Lexus LS luxury sedan is almost like a day spa on wheels. A Range Rover had to make this list since the luxury SUV maker has been massaging backs for eons. The Range Rover Velar lineup is full luxury, but make your way to HSE level you’ll experience some of the most comfortable seats in the business. 20-way electric-adjust heated and ventilated seats with adjustable bolsters, electric lumbar support and massaging function.
